All dental professionals work hard to preserve your teeth, but sometimes a tooth is beyond saving. When this is the case, extraction of the tooth is recommended to keep the rest of your mouth healthy. Dr. Beech and Dr. Reid are both highly experienced in the common procedure of tooth extraction. After your extraction procedure, we can discuss a tooth replacement solution that is right for you and your condition so that you can maintain your oral health and smile. We offer a variety of options for replacing an extracted tooth, such as dental implants, full-arch restorations, and other custom solutions.
Your tooth extraction consultation with Dr. Beech or Dr. Reid will include a complete oral examination and development of a personalized treatment plan. Please feel free to contact us today and request your consultation appointment.
General tooth extraction is typically a simple outpatient procedure performed using local anesthesia. Our team takes special care to make sure you are informed and at ease before, during, and after your treatment. If you experience anxiety about dental procedures, be sure to let us know so that we can provide you with additional options for your anesthesia.
For teeth that are visible above the gum line and are not impacted, your oral surgeon will loosen the tooth before removing it with forceps. For more complicated extractions, or if the tooth is impacted (trapped beneath the gums or under bone), your surgeon may make a small incision in your gums or remove a small amount of bone to extract the tooth. If this is the case, the options for your anesthesia will be discussed in advance to ensure your complete comfort. Once your tooth has been removed, the surgical site will be stitched closed, and you will be sent home with your designated driver to rest and recover.
You will receive detailed pre- and post-operative instructions from our office with all of the information about what to do before and after your procedure. It is important to closely follow these instructions to ensure you have a quick and smooth recovery.
When other restorative attempts, such as crowns, fillings, or root canals, have not been able to save the tooth, or if the health of the surrounding teeth is at risk by the affected tooth, it is likely time for an extraction.
You may be in need of a tooth extraction if you are experiencing any of the following:
